Gatsby's greatness
千乘九
Gatsby had the determination to stand out from childhood and made money
when he grew up. Gatsby dreamed of becoming a big man when he was
young. He despised his father and his origin, cut off contact with his
family early and went to his ideal. In the meantime, he suffered a lot,
but with extraordinary diligence, tenacity and cleverness, he learned a
lot of things. Finally, he obtained a lot of wealth through various ways
and became a rich man. His father later told his son's friends at his
funeral that Gatsby had such and such determination since childhood, and
also showed Gatsby's timetable. Gatsby is indeed a man of determination
and perseverance. The pursuit of love. After five years of absence,
in order to regain his old love and regain Daisy's attention, he didn't
hesitate to spend money and hold a grand reception in the villa every
weekend. When Daisy accidentally killed Mrs. Wilson, Gatsby took the
initiative to bear the responsibility in order to protect daisy. Gatsby
is not only a bootlegger, but also suspected of operating illegal
activities such as baseball games and financial securities. The problem
is that all he did was to buy the house opposite Daisy's place, to look
at the green light at the end of Daisy's Wharf all night, to erase the
past five years and make the past love reappear. What he pursues is a
dream destined to be disillusioned, but he always strives to move
forward. Finally, the desolation and loneliness of the funeral are
essentially the same as the noise and excitement of the initial banquet.
Gatsby is very lonely. As a secular success, he doesn't have a real
friend (Nick later became his friend). Why is that? Because of his
fictional life and experience, and because of his ulterior means of
making money, he can't get real recognition anywhere. People associate
with him only for profit. Finally, he touched his ultimate dream, but
found that Daisy was different from his dream. Gatsby relied on her
creativity to add too many things to Daisy's imagination that did not
belong to her, which eclipsed Daisy's return to reality.Even so, Gatsby
stubbornly asked Daisy to admit that she had never loved Tom and asked
Daisy to go to Daisy's hometown to get married together after divorce.
When dreams come true, they lose the light when they look at each other
from a distance. Gatsby wants to recreate his past love and let Daisy's
class accept him, but he doesn't understand a truth: what lies between
him and daisy is not only the past five years, but also the class gap
that is difficult to cross. Perhaps he understands that he just has to
work hard to pursue his dream. He will never stop until he sees the
disillusionment of his dream. Gatsby's greatness lies in what everyone
lacked in that particular era, but he insisted. Life is like sailing
against the current. Even if you know that you will be pushed back by
the tide, you still have to move forward.
