Review of the GG
Before reading the book, I have already watch the movie. And I remember that there were not many plot of the book in the movie. Although I have not read the whole story, I still want to express my thoughts.
In this book, I read about Gatsby's tortuous life. But also the world of power in which he lived, the 1920s, the world of luxury and pleasure.
In the first half of the book, the author describes the character of the people of the time. As the article says: in this world, singing and dancing are ceaseless, and the sounds and sounds of dogs and horses are endless. It doesn't remind me of the state of life in The United States at that time.
And in the book, I also like some sentences which have great philosophy. Such as: Wenever you feel like criticizing any one, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had. This kind of cultivation is called not to evaluate at will. Because everyone's growing environment is different, the feeling of sadness and joy are not the same, you do not understand me, I do not blame you. As someone said: don't judge me, you only know my name, but you don't know my story, you only heard my behavior, but not what I have been through. The greatest malice of a man is to impose his own understanding on others, to take all the results for granted and explain them by his own process, and to think that he is right all the time.
And I also like: '' He smiled understandingly—much more than under-standingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you maycome across four or five times in life. It faced—or seemed to face—the whole external world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just so far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey.'' I really like this expression of smile. The author's description is so vivid that I can see the smell in person. It showed Mr. Gatsby's gentleness and honesty to the hilt,
Tom Buchanan, the most familiar character in the first half of the book, is the son of a millionaire, a socialite and a lover of
Sports pastime, just used to play polo horses have a large group, in his 30s, but he gave a permanent impression of overbearing, talking loudly for checking recklessness. He is decisive, he is accurate, he is fierce, and when someone comes along who's gonna harm his interests, he will be unscrupulous to attack, no mercy, he is a fierce man, and very cunning words of the woman's heart.
However, Gatsby was a great man. From rags to riches, he could live the high life of the rich. Yet he was not swayed by money or fame. But in the end I know that Gatsby was dead. I regret the end of the story. And I love dearly Gatsby's infatuation.
