The Great Gatsby

Annie

After reading Gatsby, I have a lot of ideas. The great Gatsby is a harbor of American dream in the literature writer Fitzgerald's works. My main idea is "Why does the author think that Gatsby is remarkable".

Gatsby is always struggling for his wealth and  reputation. He was a lieutenant in a military training camp when he fell in love with Daisy Fay, a southern lady. However, when he returned from overseas with military MEDALS after the war, Daisy had married Tom Buchanan, a well-bulit, extremely rich but rude dude from Chicago. Gatsby, who was obsessed with love, started his business hard and became a millionaire from a poor officer.                                                      At the beginning of the story, it is a super large orchestra with oboe, trombone, saxophone, cello, violin, cornet, piccolo, treble drum, bass drum and other instruments. The oechestra played a warm cocktail tune that raised the crowd's operatic chorus another key. Gatsby did this for a woman named Daisy, he hoped Daisy is attracted to him, can have a romantic encounter.

Gatsby is the pursuer of the American dream. Americans believe in the values of "hard work" and " the pursuit of wealth". When Gatsby appeared as a successful image, it seemed that the American dream of pursuing wealth by hard work and pursuing a better life was established. Gatsby gave up everything for his dream. Gatsby spent his whole life in hope, and at the moment of his death , he was still in dream. We may call him stupid, but his perseverance and optimism are correct.

But Gatsby's struggle is in the wrong direction. Daisy's indifference and cowardice drove him to his death, and since then, the American dream has been shattered. In the Jazz Age, people with empty spirit took the pursuit of wealth as their biggest dream, and the" American Dream" had deteriorated. Such American Dream could not last for a long time and eventually went to the end. This disillusionment is a satire on the materialism of the time and the fact that people only care about money, which is also the deeper meaning of the work.

To summarize, the remarkable place of Gatsby can divided into two: One is about the dream. Daisy and Tom's ideal is to live comfortably, while Gatsby's pursuit is his ideal"Daisy". Daisy uses Gatsby ,and Tom frames Gatsby. And in the end, Daisy wanted a quiet and safe life, she didn't go to the funeral. The other is the change of social structure. We can find out more about Gatsby's persistence and sincerity. Although Gatsby from a civilian family, he had a goal to change his identity since he was young.

The theme of the Great Gatsby is to criticize the desolation of people's spirit in the materialistic age.The American Dream is a symbol of the select society. This is a sad true love story. But it is the pursuit for the dream.
