A lot of crowd effect, collective effect, still apply today. I think it's quite possible that these traits are part of human nature, and many of them might be explained by evolutionary principles. The instincts that primitive people used to rely on for survival, such as imitation, identification and power worship, may still only hold us back, and we may not be able to get rid of them even if we are aware of them.
