Points Which Require Endeavours

Go to 71.33% of this masterpiece and you'll know land is not an ordinary commodity as clothes food and et cetera. Supply-demand theory doesn't work when evaluating land.

Its price rises when the population in that area is dense. That is to say there's a scarcity in land. Scarcity makes land expensive rather than how much demand such land caters for.

Another interesting point is about statistics. Alfred explains in this chapter that why he doesn't work on tables charts or the like. He believes no matter how careful the researchers have been statistics are misleading. Because inflation in a country will tag everything with a higher price hence GDP or any other index seems enormous. So you cannot compare the development of two countries by simply looking at how much GDP they claim.

Again errors resulting from coarse scanning occur so often. For instance 'differentiation of an industry in such forms as ...' is put as 'differentiation of an industry is such forms as ...' It appears at 72.93% of the book.

All that you should do is to infer from the context trust yourself and rectify these mistakes MENTALLY. But if you're the administrator of this electronic library I want you to act not to explain. I am fed up with excuses such as 'errors are inevitable in scanning' 'we have no time' blur blur blur. Bear in mind that you are one of the staff at Beijing Foreign Studies University a prestige academic institution.

And I have a point to share with you which falls beyond my comprehension.

Alfred suggests that a man sells securities worthy of 1 600 pounds and borrows 1 400 pounds from a bank. In conclusion he appears on the balance to be a creditor to the amount of 2 600 pounds.

I don't quite follow him here. First of all how he figures out the number '2 600 pounds' I have no idea.

Secondly I assume 'securities' to be shares in a company that you can sell or buy in Shanghai Stock Exchange. As soon as I SELL them I receive cash. So my assets increase.

Meanwhile my debts increase when I borrow money from someone.

Now that I have 1 400 pounds in debt and 1 600 pounds as asset my balance turns out to be positive. I have 200 pounds after a careful calculation which doesn't accord with Alfred's statement

Share your findings when you finish this masterpiece.
