《福尔摩斯》书评

I like detective fictions. Although I can't find out the truth in a
logical inference by myself, I enjoy following the detective's thought
to find out the murderer. What's more, quite a lot of detective stories
contain something meaning. Behind the stories, sometimes we can notice
the merits or defects of human beings, which I think is a very question
deserving our consideration. In this book, I notice the defects of
human beings. In The Red-Headed League, why will Wilson be cheated? I
think it may be because of his believing in the possibility to work less
but get more. It is natural for people to want to get more with less
work, but it is unrealistic. Maybe it is even a little greedy. Why so
people be defrauded? It is because some of them believe that they are
lucky dogs who rarely get the chance to do the easy but high-paying
jobs, just like Wilson. So we must realize that, hard work is the most
reliable way to get money. In this book, I also notice the merits of
human beings. In The Three Students, I appreciate Bannister very much.
He is always grateful to the person who give him a hand, and try to
reward the person in his own way. He is always honest and never tell a
lie. He is full of justice and conscience and understand what is right
and what is wrong. He persuades Gilchrist who copied the papers to avoid
a cheat in the exam, which saves Gilchrist. Bannister is a great man
that deserves my respect.
