What kind of figure was Carrie? This question haunted me from the first
page of the book to the end of the article. Some people sneered at her,
thinking that she was nothing more than a mistress who was supported by
a man and destroyed the happiness of a family. But did Carrie ever ask
for a penny, when she came to think it over again? A born beauty, she
has a pair of with appearance, also for this reason, the two men in the
book, he and house w as volunteers to provide material for her to meet,
who even infidelity committed theft crime with Carrie, after the
causality from the greed of human nature, when this greed over moral, we
have stepped into the abyss. And was Carrie entirely innocent? Was she
somehow responsible for Hurstwood's death? Of course, although Carrie's
end is still satisfactory to get everything she wants, but she and
Hurstwood are the victims of the social background of the greed and
money first, the difference is that Carrie is more miserable......

The "American Dream" originated in the early history of the
United States. After the victory of the War of Independence, Americans
got rid of colonial rule, which greatly enhanced their national pride.
They believe that in a free and democratic country like the United
States, everyone has equal opportunities. As long as they work honestly,
everyone has the hope of success and can realize their dreams, including
the material "dream of wealth" and the spiritual "dream
of love". For many years, the "American Dream" has been
one of the popular themes for writers to write about. In the mid-19th
century, successful series of novels appeared in the United States. In
the middle and late 19th century, American romantic literature continued
to extol the "American dream" with great pride. After the 20th
century, with the frequent occurrence of hard pursuit and
disillusionment stories of the "American Dream" in real life,
the theme of the broken "American Dream" began to be reflected
in literary works, such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark
Twain and Martin Eden by Jack London. Sister Carrie is also a novel with
the theme of American Dream. Carrie's pursuit of a higher level of
"civilization and wealth" was greater than anything, so she
showed a great degree of selfishness. She abandoned these two men who
had brought her happiness and never missed her relatives after she was
satisfied. She has been, and only has been, immersed in the American dream.

Sister Carrie enters our vision as a poor rural girl who yearns for
wealth. However, driven by various forces and desires in reality, Sister
Carrie eventually becomes fashionable and bright. However, she will find
herself impoverished in the end. That is the simplest summary of Sister
Carrie's life. Drouet, the drummer whom Sister Carrie had met on the
train to the great city of Chicago, got a taste of the respectable life
of a salesman. Therefore, when her life became more and more difficult
as a coach-girl under the pressure of her brother-in-law, she did not
hesitate to abandon her sister and seek a better life by becoming
Drouet's mistress. However, human desires are infinite, and when we take
a step forward, we cannot help but long for higher status; I don't think
there is anything wrong with this idea in itself. It can be read in a
positive way, striving for a better life, but in Sister Carrie it is ironic.
