The Little Prince
The little prince said, "what makes the desert so beautiful is that it hides a spring somewhere." Perhaps we can simply understand this sentence as: what makes life so beautiful is our hidden sincerity and childlike innocence. The little prince is a fairy tale, but it is not a fairy tale in an ordinary sense. It is full of thinking about the state of human life. It is a so-called "philosophical fairy tale". The little prince was created by St. Exupery during his exile in the United States after demobilization. In that turbulent era, the war destroyed many people's good beliefs. This book also contains his rethinking of the value of human existence, human pursuit of material and hoodwinked mind. This book doesn't speak any big truth. It doesn't even speak any truth "eloquently". It has nothing to do with preaching. Everything is contained in this picturesque story, in the stars, deserts and clear springs, and in the little prince's silver bell like laughter. It is as simple and moving as truth.
From the perspective of St. Exupery, this book tells the story of a child who was forced to land in the Sahara Desert due to a flight accident. He had no helper around him and brought only enough water to drink for a week. When he was most lonely and helpless, he met a friend who could push his heart and fingers - the little prince. The little prince could understand his painting and the elephant in the python. In his conversation with the little prince, he learned that the little prince came from asteroid B612. There were baobab saplings on the planet where the little prince lived, so the little prince asked St. esuperi to help him draw a sheep. In order to prevaricate the little prince, St. esuperi scrawled a box and told the little prince that the sheep he wanted was inside. Unexpectedly, the little prince was happy and satisfied with the sheep, But St. esuperi knew he couldn't see the sheep through the box like the little prince, because he had become his most hated adult. The little prince likes to watch the sunset. In his little planet, he watched the sunset forty-three times a day.
There is also a unique rose on the little prince's planet. It is so proud and heartbreaking. Later, the little prince left his planet while migratory birds were migrating, leaving the rose he loved deeply. He first arrived at Planet 325, where there lived a king. The king believed that people all over the world were his people. What he cared about was that others respected his authority and he would not allow others to disobey his orders. The little prince didn't like the old king's style. He sighed and left. On the second planet where the little prince arrived, there lived a vain man who thought that others admired him and he could only hear the praise of others. The little prince met a drunkard on the third planet. The drunkard drank hard to forget his shame and fell into a vicious circle. The little prince met a businessman who was keen on counting stars on the fourth planet. Then, the little prince saw a lamplighter and a street lamp on the fifth planet. The lamplighter lit and turned off the lights on time every day. He thought this was the rule, which could not be violated.
People are very tired after lighting the lights on the planet every day, but they are very tired. The little prince likes this planet because he can watch 1440 sunsets in a day. The little prince met a geographer who stayed at home on the seventh planet. At his suggestion, the little prince came to the earth. The little prince first knew the snake on earth. The snake told the little prince that it could send him back to his planet. Soon, the little prince met the fox in the rose garden. The little prince "tamed" the fox and they became friends who needed each other. Finally, the little prince chose to return to his planet because he wanted his unique rose and he was responsible for it.
The little prince accompanies the growth of many children and has become a beautiful mark in our life; It also affects many adults and touches their deep childlike innocence. The fox told the little prince; Its secret is that you can only see clearly with your heart, and you can't see the essence with your eyes. For the majority of readers, this also points out a secret of reading this book. With your eyes, you should also look with your heart. Through this fairy tale, St. esuperi takes us to feel the beauty of life and contact the essence of life, rather than the "adults" seen by the little prince, busy with superficial things such as power, vanity, position and knowledge.
The king who thought he was very authoritative, but actually became a victim of the pursuit of authority; The conceited man who asked others to keep taking off their hats and applauding him; The guy who feels ashamed of drinking and drinks desperately to forget his shame; A businessman keen to count the number of stars; Geographers never go out; Tired lighters who stick to their duties... They all have a common feature, that is, they ignore the really beautiful things. That lovely but heartbreaking rose is actually a projection of the writer's beloved wife. Of course, with such deep philosophy, this rose is not simply the writer's wife. But he warned us: love is persistence, which comes from watering, caring and talking again and again. It is because you have spent time for your rose that she becomes so important.
Maybe we can't see the sheep through the box like the little prince, but we will still explore things with our heart. And we all want to believe that the little prince is still alive, living happily with his rose and his lamb, and laughing like a silver bell.
