To Carton

His appearance was unremarkable, except that he looked exactly like Darnay. His image is a far cry from that of a lawyer. He is slovenly. He said to himself in the mirror, "In him you can see what you were before the fall, what you could have been! Would you have been as favored by the blue eyes as he was, and as pitied by the excited little face as he was?" It did not occur to me at the time that their likeness had foreshadowed his fate.

He liked her the first time he met her in court. Though he didn't admit it at first, he said she was just a blond doll. But he was the first to notice that she had fainted and cried out eagerly. He, Caton, is a lawyer. She, Lucie, was a witness, and this was their first meeting. But this story is not about their love. Lucie is the main character, but he is not. So he was the only one who was attracted to her.I can't help but think of the lyric "just for looking at you in the crowd".

He was the right-hand man of barrister Striver. He was known as Jackal. He drank his way through the day, but at night he set to work with towels soaked in cold water stacked over his head. Striver the Lion always gave him the most difficult work while he made himself comfortable on the sofa. They fought their cases beautifully every time, and all the credit went to Striver. No one knew how much he had paid, and he didn't care. He seemed happy to play jackal." Even then [at school], I was always doing other people's homework and rarely doing my own," he says. Because that's how he does it. I think that's how I came to like him. I silently thought, this man, really let a person distressed.

This man, he was talented, he was emotional, but he never had the opportunity, either to exercise his powers or to express his feelings. He has no power to seek his own happiness, he knows that his way of life is wrong, but he does not want to change, he knows that he is corrupt, but still muddle along, wasted time. I wonder what he thinks. I wonder why he's the way he is. He said to Lucie, "Ever since I met you...I heard the whisper that I thought I'd never hear again, urging me on. I had vague thoughts of picking myself up and starting over...""But it is a dream, all a dream, and in the end there is nothing left but the dreamer lying where he is..."In his confession to Lucie, he said: "If I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity and ability to make sacrifices, I will make any sacrifice for you and your lover..."By this time, I had a vague feeling that he was destined for a tragic end.

After Lucie got married, he still went to her house occasionally, and he still looked lazy and didn't seem to care about anything. He seemed to be forever gripped by an air of inattention, and rarely did his inner light break through the gloom. But no one could doubt that his love for her had disappeared a little. After she became a wife and mother, he was still devoted to her without complaining. So when Lucie's husband, Dana, was faced with being beheaded, he didn't turn back. He asked Mr. Lowry about a quote:

"If you really say to your lonely heart tonight, 'No one has ever loved me, liked me, appreciated me, or respected me; I've never had a place in anyone's heart; I've never done anything good to be remembered. 'Then your seventy-eight years will be seventy-eight cursed years, won't they?"

It's his inner monologue, he's worried, he wants to be loved, he wants to be remembered. After he decided to trade himself for Darnay, he was so calm, "Let me follow in his footsteps. "To love someone is to want to do all the things she has done and feel all the things she has felt. The love he gave her was protection, including the protection of her lover. Before leaving, he touched her face lightly with his lips and whispered, "The life of the one you love." He gave his life for the life of the one she loved, for her happiness. But who will make you happy? Perhaps for you, this is the greatest happiness. As you said yourself, "What I'm doing is the best, best thing I've ever done in my life;I am about to have the most peaceful, peaceful rest I have ever had in my life."
