Cross-Country Skiing

The story follows two skiers as they go from playing outside to drinking and chatting in a pub. Nick went from firm to wavering, George from wavering to firm. The conflict of two people's attitudes builds a variety of possibilities for the article. It shows their confusion about the future. The cruel reality makes them dare not have too much hope for the future, but it is also because of the cruel reality, they hope that the agreement can be fulfilled, in order to get rid of the shackles of reality for a while. In this story, the female characters are hardly named. George and Nick talk all the time, and the wife is only used as her substitute. Hemingway's Cross-Country Skiing implied the weakness of women. At that time, women had no voice.
