In my sophomore year, I took a course called English Translation of Chinese Classics, in which I compared the English translation of the Analects of Confucius.

Some scholars criticized Gu Hongming for translating the Analects of Confucius in the western philosophical background. However, we should also admit that his translation is of great significance for western readers to better accept this work. While conveying the traditional Chinese culture and spirit to Westerners, it has also become the most recognized translation of the Analects of Confucius, which has been widely circulated.

The translation of the English translation of The Analects of Confucius mainly adopts the technique of naturalization, and it can be said to be a "extreme naturalization" strategy. As we all know, the Analects of Confucius is a representative work of traditional Chinese classics. Such a work with a deep cultural imprint, its translation must first solve how to cross the deep gap of cultural background, so as to connect the source language culture and the translated language culture. Therefore, Gu Hongming adopted the technique of naturalization.

The naturalization method advocates that the translation should be close to the language culture and conform to the reading and thinking habits of the translation readers. Facts have proved that Gu Hongming is extremely naturalized, and the translation method really makes it easier for western readers to accept the connotation and essence of the Analects of Confucius, which has been strongly welcomed by western readers.

In the translation of the analects of Confucius, often encounter some proper nouns such as names and names, this kind of noun due to the difference of cultural background, many western readers in reading this kind of vocabulary tend to produce feeling and weird, in the face of this kind of problem, in order to eliminate the western readers usually encounter strange and strange feeling, GuHongMing tend to source language without too much influence on theme .
