Feminine Consciousne

Charlotte Brontë was a brilliant female writer, and her creation of the character of Jane Eyre fully reflects this author's female-centric subjectivity. As society progresses, more and more women around the world are awakening to their feminine consciousness, and they have made many brave attempts and great contributions in the pursuit of equal rights and independent thinking. In my opinion, if contemporary women want to have a mature and well-developed feminine consciousness, they should consider Jane Eyre as an object of study.

Jane Eyre's most striking first impression in the book is her tenacity to resist injustice, an important expression of her quest for equality as a person. Jane Eyre grew up in the home of her Aunt Riddle and was subjected to discrimination and humiliation, but she did not choose to hold her tongue or submit in a cowardly manner in this unequal family relationship, but instead expressed her grievances and anger loudly. When she is violently treated by her cousin John, for example, she wrestles with him like a madwoman and sharply rebuffs his violent insolence. When she is falsely accused by her Aunt Riddle of being a liar of bad character in front of outsiders, for example, she expresses her resentment and discontent towards her in no uncertain terms. Throughout history, many women have been shackled and suppressed by regulations designed to prevent women from having the same legitimate interests and equal status as men in order to destabilise patriarchal societies. Women have been expected to be gentle, generous and submissive, as if only such women could be welcomed and respected, when in fact only women like Jane Eyre, who dared to assert her individuality, to speak out and to fight against inequality, were able to protect their precious dignity and entitlement.

Secondly, the key to Jane Eyre's sense of feminine independence is her pursuit of financial autonomy. Jane Eyre studied hard at school, and her knowledge became her greatest capital to earn a living in society. She obtained a job as a governess by virtue of her excellent ability, and whatever the salary, the wealth Jane Eyre gained was earned by herself, and it definitely belonged to Jane Eyre, so she was able to gain a foothold and even a certain respectable position in society. Even though Jane Eyre - who is in love with her employer Mr. Rochester - does not give up her job as a governess, as she does not want to be a vine dependent on others. Traditionally, women's economic status has been out of neglect and indifference, their economic ability is limited and stifled, which leads to their feminine consciousness not being inspired and developed, and similarly, a meagre feminine consciousness can hinder women's economic ability. Economic independence is the foundation that lays the foundation for women's independence of thought and is a strong pillar that sustains feminine consciousness. Contemporary women must have the economic capacity to support themselves independently in order to have an independent mind and a free life. As Engels said, "The emancipation of women, the equality of women with men, is and will remain impossible as long as women remain excluded from the productive work of society and engage only in the private work of the family."

Beyond this, Jane Eyre boldly pursues free and equal love. She does not feel inferior to Mr. Rochester, a man of high status and wealth, because of the difference in status, as Jane Eyre says: "Do you think, because I am poor, lowly, unattractive, and short, that I have no soul and no heart? You think wrong! My soul is the same as yours, and my heart is exactly the same as yours! If God had given me wealth and beauty, I would have made it difficult for you to leave me, just as it is difficult for me to leave you now. I speak to you now as my spirit speaks to your spirit, as two have gone through the grave, and we stand at God's heel, equal as we are. "Jane Eyre is the first heroine in the history of English fiction to take the initiative to express her love to her hero, driven by strong emotions, and she is frank and brave in the face of her feelings. When she discovers that she cannot be Mr. Rochester's lawful wife due to the existence of his wife, she chooses to leave. In her heart, love is important, but she cannot accept a love that she has acquired only lightly, so Jane Eyre makes the painful and torturous decision to leave Mr. Rochester and takes a determined step forward in the fight for her true happiness and a good life. Women in modern society have always accepted love passively under the pressure of traditional attitudes. They are too shy to express their love in order to maintain their reserved ladylike image, and as wives they have to make unconditional sacrifices for their families and serve their husbands. The character of Jane Eyre succeeds in setting a good example for women that they too can be powerful, independent and have accumulated wealth on their own, rather than being subservient and instrumental to men.
