the End of the Two Geniuses

刘恒瑞

Different from the other novels about Homls, this one shows little details about how Holms detects and catch Moriarty. Instead it shows us how sly Moriarty is even when Holms finishes preparing for it. They are similar to each other, for the reason that they are both the cleverest man of the contract sides. Before the final problem it has implied many times that it's their fate to fight against each other. I think the best discription of Holms wisdom is the part when Waston is to leave Holms. At that time Holms is standing without saying something. In fact, he has already know that all it is Moriarty's trick. I think the writter express two different aspect of Holms. One aspect is, of course, the similarity with Moriarty. For this reason, they have reach an agreement that they should finally deal with each other face to face. It's like a duel between the opponents. In this case it shows the unipue wisdom of Holms. The other aspect is the friendship between Holms and Waston. In order to protect Watson from the dagerous Moriarty, Holms choose to face Moriarty on his own. In this case it also shows the conprehensive thinking of the great genius, and the importance of his friend.
