Can you go back to the past?

Gatsby believes he can. He believes what have been left behind could be found one day with no changes at all. So he struggles to climb hundreds of mountains and cross hundreds of rivers to search for the girl in memory. The girl, pure and fascinating as a rose in memory, has been the most significant thing which holsters his life and faith.

Unfortunately, what has been gone has been gone forever. Nick was right, you could never go back to the past. Things are always changing. What seems worth pursuing for all life is vulnerable and presumably only exists in imagination and illusion, but when it comes to reality you would always get disappointed and may even defeated.

Whereas Gatsby is the last one to yield to the cruelty of reality, he was buried in the dust of his dream. However, there will always be a moment when we stand on our feet and continue chasing after our dreams. Only death could curb our moving.

If life is for illusion, then go ahead and live for illusion. We have got nothing to lose eventually and that’s what prove our existence.
