"The Old Man and the Sea" was written by Ernest Hemingway and
tells the story of an old man who challenges nature. In the book
"The Old Man and the Sea", the old man started out poor and
had a difficult life. He drifted on the sea every day without any
harvest, but even in such circumstances, he still had a lofty goal - one
day, he could catch a surprising big fish. The old man tried his best to
prove his strength and refused to submit to his fate. After numerous
challenges and failures, he succeeded! He caught a big fish, although
the meat was eaten up by the sharks, the huge skeleton was amazing, and
he was exhausted... He couldn't help but feel sincere joy at the result
of his hard work. Behind this, there is a great man who challenges
nature with a mortal body. In the face of setbacks and challenges in
life, he does not give up. He fights against his own destiny with an
indomitable attitude. In times of self sadness and despair, he
resolutely stands up and fights against that meaningless fate. When I
first read this novel, I didn't have that deep feeling, but after
understanding the author's life story, my attitude was completely
different. Hemingway was influenced by his family and had a wealth of
knowledge when he was young. Later, he joined the battlefield and
survived great disasters, which gave him a spirit of bravery. In the
novel, the old man is ridiculed and isolated by everyone due to his
fishing failure. After several days of confrontation with the big fish,
he still only gets a skeleton. Perhaps you may think this is still a
failure, but I don't think so. What is failure? Failure is a person who,
after putting in all their efforts, still fails and ultimately gives up,
feeling regretful. Although the old man did not catch a big fish, he
still felt gratified by his efforts. For the old man, true victory is
not about what kind of reward he receives, but rather his ability to
pursue his ideals and fight against his limits through his maximum
effort. What Hemingway wanted to shape must also be a character carrying
the spirit of bravery, and what he wanted to tell us must also be
reflected in this old man. A person's body has limits, but the spirit of
those who dare to challenge themselves and fight against nature has no
limits. Everyone's life is an endless, winding and muddy race, and each
of us is an athlete. During the race, we will encounter various
setbacks. When we fall, facing the endless road ahead, we will make life
choices. If we give up on this, we will forever fall and disappear from
people's sight; And if we can regroup, stand up resolutely, and fight
against that difficult fate, even if we may never reach the finish line,
our spirit of fighting for it is worthy of respect, and the sweat after
struggle is the best proof of victory! How do the various psychological
reactions reflected in the hearts of the elderly and those in the sea
differ from those of us contemporary people? We seek the goals we want
to achieve throughout our lives, but on the way forward, we always
encounter many unpredictable setbacks and failures. We have also been
confused by our doubts and felt lonely and helpless for our fragile and
insignificant life. Reading Hemingway's books is like examining one's
own inner self. We should not only care about our own spirit and
thoughts, but more importantly, we should have the spirit of bravery,
the courage to face challenges, and the courage to resist. Dare to
strive for your ideal tomorrow, even if you fail? Therefore, when
reading about the elderly and the sea, we should also examine ourselves.
In this seemingly ordinary life, everything seems to be so
insignificant, but when we truly understand ourselves, the struggle
against fate we make is the best harvest and growth!
