Assessment of Tess
Doreen
Tess is a classic work by Thomas Hardy, which depicts the tragic fate of
a pure and kind country girl Tess. There are many wonderful moments in
the novel, which makes people enjoy endless aftertastes. First of all,
I would like to mention Tess's first arrival in Flintcomb. Through the
description of Tess, the author shows her innocence and longing for the
future. She is dressed in plain clothes, shy, but full of courage and
hope, and the picture makes people feel touched by her innocence. In
this scene, readers can feel Tess's expectation for a new life and her
curiosity for the unknown world, which makes people worry about her
fate. Secondly, the communication between Tess and Angelina is also a
highlight of the novel. Angelina is an independent and strong female
image, and the dialogue between her and Tess shows the collision and
exchange of two different personalities and life attitudes. Through
their interaction, readers can see the different choices of women in
different generations when facing social pressure and fate challenges,
and this contrast gives the novel more depth and space for thinking.
Finally, the friendship and trust between Tess and Angelina is also very
impressive. Although they have different experiences and life
circumstances, their hearts are so connected, and each other has become
the pillar and rely on each other's lives. This kind of sincere
friendship is especially precious and moving in the novel, which makes
people deeply moved. In general, these wonderful moments in Tess not
only show the author's delicate portrayal of the characters' psychology,
but also allow readers to get emotional resonance, and deeply reflect on
the themes of life, destiny and friendship.
