书评:You Are Special
Q
Recently I finished reading You Are Special, a warm bilingual
book full of gentle power. As an English major sophomore, I find this
short collection far more touching than I expected. The book uses
plain English paired with soft Chinese translations, making it friendly
for English learners like me. Unlike thick academic novels, its short
poems and warm quotes focus on self-acceptance. The yellow cover with a
white bird and green feathers perfectly matches its core idea: every
person is unique and valuable. Many lines remind readers to stop
doubting themselves. One favourite sentence goes “Spare an afternoon to
follow your dreams”, telling us not to ignore our inner wishes under
daily pressure. In my college life, I often feel anxious when
falling behind classmates in vocabulary or oral exams. After reading
this book, I realize comparing myself with others is meaningless.
Everyone has their own pace of growth. Some people shine early, while
others bloom slowly. The book’s simple English is also great learning
material. Short sentences and common vocabulary help me accumulate daily
expressions without reading tough articles. This little book is not
just a reading material but a comforting friend. It teaches me to
embrace my flaws and cherish my uniqueness. To all English learners and
confused young people, I highly recommend it. It cheers you up whenever
you lose confidence and reminds you all the time: you are irreplaceable
and special in your own way.
