Book Review on The Great Gatsby
用户866720
Written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby reflects the empty Jazz
Age and the broken American Dream in the 1920s. Told by Nick, the story
follows Gatsby, a poor boy who gets rich just to win back his old lover
Daisy. He throws grand parties waiting for her, dreaming of recreating
their past. However, the class gap separates them. Selfish Daisy hits
someone with her car, yet Gatsby takes the blame and gets killed. Daisy
and her rich husband abandon him completely. Gatsby’s greatness lies in
his pure hope amid a greedy, cold society. The green light near Daisy’s
house is a key symbol, representing his unreachable dream of love and
success. This novel is a sharp criticism of materialism. It reminds us
that blind obsession with unrealistic dreams will only end in sorrow.
