Written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby is a masterpiece of the
Lost Generation, depicting the Jazz Age in the 1920s. Told from Nick’s
perspective, the story centers on Jay Gatsby, who holds endless fancy
parties just to win back his old lover Daisy. Gatsby is loyal,
romantic and full of hope, yet all wealthy people around him are cold,
selfish and indifferent. The novel reveals the corruption of the
American Dream. People chase money blindly but lose their conscience and
true feelings. Its ending is sad but thought-provoking. It tells us
that we cannot return to the past. This short novel remains one of the
greatest American novels worth reading forever.
