After reading The Great Gatsby, I feel pity for Gatsby and his unfulfilled dream.

Gatsby was born into a poor family. When he was young, he fell in love with Daisy, a rich and beautiful girl. He lost contact with her during the war. To win Daisy’s heart, he made a lot of money and bought a big villa near her house. Every night, he watched the green light at her dock, which represented his only hope. He held lively parties to attract Daisy, keeping his simple dream for many years.

Unfortunately, Daisy was weak and selfish. She loved luxury more than true feelings. After she hit and killed Tom’s mistress by accident, she and Tom shifted all blame to Gatsby. In the end, Gatsby was killed, but almost no one attended his funeral. Those guests who once enjoyed his parties all left him. Even Daisy never came to see him for the last time.

Gatsby is great because he still holds warm faith in a cold, money-driven world. The story shows the emptiness of the American Dream. It tells us wealth can never buy sincere love. We should value true feelings rather than blind pursuit of material success.
