My review on Gay Marriage: A C

伍颖欣

This article was written after the Supreme Court in US recently declared the legalization of the same-sex marriage with mere one more justice supported this act than those opposed. However, behind such cheerful news for the LGBT groups, no substantial progress has been made: neither the act gave specific guidance about how to recognize a same-sex couple’s marriage nor did the act has the force to make the US states to observe this laws. In fact, it is more like a symbol to be celebrated in history but make little difference to the life of those gays and lesbians for the time being. Still, its release was hard, conflicts flew everywhere, and even the Congress Hill refused to pass acts about legalizing the same-sex marriage.

I feel quite sad about this news. Not only for the LGBT groups but for humans’ deep- rooted weakness of discriminating and isolating those weaker and those different from the majority also. 1000 years ago, the men looked down upon the women. 200 years ago, the withe despised the black; and till now, new distinction appeared because different sex orientation. But history will prove itself. Yes, just like women had proved that they deserve the same dignity and rights men had and the black had proved that their difference between the withe was just an opportunity to be treated equally. One day the gays and lesbians can prove that they are the same in intelligence and morality, except that what they love is of the same sex of them.

We often set endless obstacles for these minorities, coldly watching them fight for their deserved rights. Even in the relatively open society such as America, the opposing voice never stops, and the mainstream of which is about the religion belief. Religions do play an important role in the discrimination. But it is the misunderstanding and fear in heart that hurts. Why should the LGBT suffer so much? Are they really abandoned by the God? See Alan Turing, see Wild, see their miserable life. They did nothing bad to this society, and why we could not accept their sex orientation and make them suffer? God said we humans are brotherhood and sisterhood, and that should not be our attitude towards our brothers and sisters.

Last lesson, i was moved by the song “ love is colorblind”, which urges people around the world to be together regardless of the color of their skin. To make the majority realize this, we have spend hundreds of years. I don’t know how many this time will cost, but i do know that we cannot isolate them just because they are not like us. Acknowledging and respecting the difference is the shining points of us, and i believe though we move slowly, one small step each time, if we keep on moving, we can make our way to where we want to go .
