This book is written by Arthur Conan Doyle, the famous Britain writer. He wrote sixty pieces of detective novels in total. Besides the detective novels, he also wrote other types of novels, like science fiction, history, opera and so on. But he is famous for the hero of his detective novels, Sherlock Holmes

His writing style, can be summed up as: Scientific and professional. In his book, he was good at setting   suspense and stimulating the reader's interest, and paid attention to the overall layout. The plot echoes strongly and logically, using rigorous causal reasoning and deductive method. His short stories have a very strong sense of pictures, the conflicts and the settings are so attractive that it seems that we are watching a wonderful film.

In the book, there are so many impressive sentences. " When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." It is not only useful in criminal detection, but in our everyday life as well. It tells us that one should keep calm, and one should tell apart the main point and the slight point. If we could do that, we will work more efficiently.

" Courage is the best word for stupidity." Especially in emergencies, to be brave is not the best way to escape from vicious incidents.  What we should do is to think twice, keep calm, using our intelligence to avoid being injured cleverly.

In this book, the background is based on true history, like the First World War.

I want to recommend this book to you. Conan Doyle's contribution to detective fiction is enormous,  the story structure, reasoning method and the clever idea have been the example of this type of novels, he deserved to be a master in literature. Sherlock Holmes has started " golden age " in detective fiction history, is popular all over the world.
