The collection includes Four works by Ernest Hemingway: Mr. And Mrs. Elliot, My Old Man, Good News from the Mainland and The Old Man at the Bridge. "The Elliots" describes how the Elliots try very hard to have a child. They try as hard as they can, but nothing happens. "My Dad" describes the father as a racehorse racer, has his own humor and happy life. And teach "me" by experience and by example how to be a professional racer. "Great News from the Mainland" tells of a father talking to his son, who is undergoing electroconvulsive treatment, and his son's doctor. The old man by the Bridge, by narrating the conversation between "me" and an old man fleeing for safety by the bridge, profoundly reveals the evil of war and expresses the author's compassion for life.
