There are several interesting facts in the novel The Call of the Wild that our group would like to share in this reading report which can help us understand the main idea of the novel. When Buck first set out, he already knew how to eat quickly to prevent food from being stolen and how to steal food without being found. It showed his ability to change, to change himself to fit various conditions. This also profoundly reveals the theme: “Natural selection, survival of the fittest." Also, after a sledge life, Buck suddenly dreamed of ancient people in his dream at night. He dreamed of his ancestors lived in the wild with them and this responds to the theme of the novel: the call of the wild. As the same time, the wild nature awakened in Buck's body and make him difficult to sleep again. At the end of the novel, when Buck hunting a leading moose, the author has used triple "never" to describe: "From then on, day and night, Buck never left the moose, never gave it a moment's rest, never allowed it to stop and eat the leaves of trees or the new grass that grew", which has showed Buck's cruel nature. The detailed description of Buck in the novel makes Buck's image jump onto the paper and promotes the development of the plot at the same time.

This novel has described Buck's basic needs because Buck was tamed by humans and his feet are not as wear resistant as those of other sled dogs. That’s maybe the reason why he needs boots. The novel also described the spiritual description of Buck. Buck grew rapidly because of his rough life experience. He invested in natural life from a comfortable civilized life, which makes it feel intertwined with reality and dream. This also symbolizes that it is gradually changing. And Buck threw itself into nature with a little wolf, which shows that it has accepted the call of the wild. His positive attitude indicated that he is about to enter the wild era. The moment most impressed us is Buck living with Thornton. Before buck was rescued by Thornton, his wildness had been already awakened. However, he was still very meek in front of Thornton because he felt the love. Also because of the love, Buck can still come back to Thornton after going into the forest again and again. Thornton praised Buck as the best dog, meanwhile buck treat Thornton as folk.

Here is a question from all of us: Is Buck's returned from the civilized world to the original state progressive or degraded? Anyway, Buck’s human nature was acquired due to human domestication. Now Buck gradually returns to his ancestral nature, which is also due to human beings. I think it's ironic. Either forced or voluntary, Buck never stopped in the way to find wildness. After John’s death. The last willing to living with human is gone. Buck finally went back to nature. The last thing we would like to share is “human beings are always realistic”. Driven by endless profits gradually gets lost in the tempting world. Buck s story inspired me a lot. If Buck can return to the nature after being privilege Human, he can find the original intention in a world of greedy.
