My thoughts on reading
陈洁琪
I have already read the chapter where
Jane meets her friend Helen. I was touched by Helen's kindness and
tolerance.Maybe it is Helen who taught Jane to try to be tolerant and
be better. Before Jane entered Lowood, Jane had been almost
uneducated, neglected and unsocialized. It was Helen, a mature girl of
her own age, who gave Jane first lessons. When Jane saw that Helen was
calmly punished or her own self-abasement was hurt, she was simply
angry and wanted to resist. She wanted to take Helen's whipping stick
from the teacher's hand and break it in front of her. Helen, however,
taught her patience and adaptability. "If you can't avoid it, you
can't help it... You were weak and stupid to say you couldn't stand
it." This helped Jane in her later life, and Helen told her that
"life is too short to hold grudges." Perhaps that was why
Jane later forgave Mrs Reed. Unfortunately, Helen died soon. Jane
spent her last night with Helen, gave her one last kiss, exchanged one
last word. Their friendship is everlasting.
