The old man and the sea
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway’s most enduring works and may very well become one of the true classics of this generation. It played a great part in his winning the Pulizer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Novel Prize for Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers.

The Old Man and the Sea is not a novel that teaches people how to achieve harmony in their souls, but a search and a quest. The old man hopes to use the experience of fishing and hunting at sea to send his values beyond. "Individuals can be destroyed, but not given to defeat" - undoubtedly this is exactly Hemingway's value.

飞飞困飞了But it has to be acknowledged that The Old Man and the Sea is both a great paean to heroism and a contemporary echo of ancient Greek tragedy. "A man is not born to be defeated." "A man can be destroyed, but not defeated." This is Santiago's refrain during his fight with the shark, and it is Hemingway's philosophy.
