Jane Eyre escapes from reality in the early part of the novel, but gradually uses reason and femininity to overcome the oppressive religious and societal forces of Victorian England in order to progress the rights of women. I will be covering several points, including: Jane is a moral gothic character, the morality and class wars of the 19th century progressed the rights of women, insensitive portrayals of madness and the metaphor of the mirror. I think the message is that women as men have the ability, as well as their hearts and minds and a woman married to a great deal more than just ability.
