About the personality, the old man and Jane are brave people that would not easily knocked down by life. Discourage and difficulties cannot be in the way of pursuing what they want.
About love, the two people at the beginning of the story have any love from parents and neighboring. But luckily, there is someone who love them. The boy who has companied the old man show his love as campanion and food supplying. Jane lacks of love firstly but lastly she meets her Mr.Right who can be with her and treat her well until the end of the life.
