Coincidence has that I come across this book in a lazy afternoon for
mistaking its author as George Orwell. What’s worse, I have already fell
in love with it when I find out the fact. To travel in time tends to
be a dream of everyone. If I could travel in time, I would bother no
more about everything I am doing now for I have the opportunity to
reexperience and change it. If I could travel in time, I would foresee
my destiny and avoid numerous mistakes as well as follies I am making
now. Upon seeing the topic Time Machine, I was occupied with those
fantasies above. However, with the whole story gradually unfolding, I
realized the story was out of my imagination. The author is just a
story-teller, who reveals to us the acquaintances of the scientist and
time machine builder. The scientist invented the machine and tried it on
his own by travelling to the year 802701. From the perspective of people
as ordinary as me, I can only conceive that people in future are doomed
to be smarter, stronger, and happier than us to date. But in the eyes of
the time traveler, it turns out to be different. Facetiously, those
future people are indeed enjoying much better environment. Anyhow, this
doesn’t lead to their happiness. They are all dread of night, because
the Morlocks, once their servants might catch and eat them at night.
Moreover, because of lacking in labor, they grow feebler and smaller, to
such extent that they have no strength to get out of water once they
fall into it. Besides, we could almost hold them on our palms. To
describe our descendents in this way, the author maybe want to remind us
of the dangerous aspects of capitalism and industrialization, which not
only enable man to do less and less work but also make their tools or
servants swifter and stronger.
