Confucius (September 28, 551 B.C. - April 11, 479 B.C.), surnamed Kong, Mingqiu, Zizhongni, was a native of Lu State in the late Spring and Autumn Period (now Qufu, Shandong), and his ancestral home was Liyi in the Song Kingdom (now Xiayi, Henan), an ancient Chinese thinker, educator, and the founder of Confucianism.
Confucius pioneered the style of private lectures, advocating benevolence, righteousness, courtesy, wisdom and faith. There were 3,000 disciples, of whom 72 were sages. He led some of his disciples to travel around the world for thirteen years, and in his later years revised the Six Classics of Poetry, Books, Rites, Music, Yi, and Spring and Autumn. After the death of Confucius, his disciples and followers recorded the words, deeds, quotations, and thoughts of Confucius and his disciples, and compiled them into the Analects. The book is regarded as a Confucian classic.

丁达Confucius is the most influential and respected philosopher in Chinese history. His philosophy/ideas have exerted great influence on Chinese society from around 100 B.C. to the early 20th century. Confucius never wrote down any of his own teachings. But for his disciples who took the trouble to record his conversations and discourses, Confucius would have been a nobody today. Being widespread across China, the teachings of Confucius were accepted by people for his sound principles, and all successive dynasties made them the official state ideology. Confucianism affected every aspect of Chinese society, including education, government, public and private attitudes, and etiquette.
