According to the United States Census Bureau (USCB) the world population exceeded 7 billion on March 12,2012. According to a separate estimate by the United Nations Population Fund, it reached this milestone on October 31, 2011.
The world population has experienced continuous growth since the end of the Great Famine and the Black Death in 1350. We are facing a severe world-wide population expansion problem. This course will further explain and analyze this world population problem.
这门调查型课程向学生介绍了有关人类生育的重要和基本的材料、人口增长、人口转变和人口政策等内容。课程主题包括:人类和人口压力的环境方面的问题;人口历史;人口变化的经济和文化原因;环境的可承载能力和可持续性。本课程也讨论了生育的政治、宗教以及道德问题。本门课程采取全球的视角,既涉及到了发达国家也包括了发展中国家的状况。
This survey course introduces students to the important and basic material on human fertility, population growth, the demographic transition and population policy. Topics include: the human and environmental dimensions of population pressure, demographic history, economic and cultural causes of demographic change, environmental carrying capacity and sustainability. Political, religious and ethical issues surrounding fertility are also addressed. The perspective is global with both developed and developing countries included.
