It is characterized by its use of black ink and water, often applied onto rice paper or silk using brushstrokes. This technique captures the essence of the subject, whether it's landscapes, animals, plants, or calligraphy. It emphasizes the expression of the artist's emotions and the spirit of the subject, rather than realistic detail. The use of negative space, creating a balance between the painted elements and the unpainted background. The simplicity of this medium allows for a great deal of expressiveness and individuality in the work.
