  I think the stranger is Mr. Mason, who was attacked by Bertha Mason. Upon discovering that Mr. Mason was injured, Mr. Rochester took immediate action to take Mason to safety and brought in a doctor to treat him.

  The stranger was Mason. I think Grace Poole attacked him. Mr Mason was injured in the incident, and Mr Rochester sent him away hastily, after a hasty dressing of his wound.

  Mason. Grace Poole. He calmed his guests and persuaded them to return to their rooms. He leave Jane in this room with Mason while he fetch the doctor. He told Mason to go to the doctor's house to recover.
