头发老哥
Around the World in 80 Days is a novel written by French writer Jules verne in the 19th century. The novel is about the adventures of British gentleman Fogg who travels around the world in 80 days because of a bet. In these 80 days, Fogg and his servant, master know-it-all, used their extraordinary intelligence and amazing friendship to overcome difficulties, travel to many countries, and finally return to London at the appointed time. Fantasy, roaming, satire and local customs are the most prominent features of this classic. There is no doubt that Fogg's courage in taking risks and his gentlemanly attitude even in the face of difficulties are admirable., but what I want to talk about in this article is the context of the era that I saw through this novel.
What the biggest shock the Around the World in 80 Days bring to me is that it describes the different customs all over the world, and the chaos as well as absurdity of the world at that time because of the imperial colonialism. In the 19th century, Imperialism prevailed all over the world, whether the killing in India for colonial, or the opium in China for control, or the chaos in American for market, all of these were showed through the Fogg's experience. This is the most formal description of western imperialism at that time. Government did it, however, people were not like that. Up to literary giants down to the ordinary people were all on the complaint of this kind of behavior. Mr. Fogg is a role which is created to express strong dissatisfaction and compassion by Jules verne. Of course, Mr. Fogg is just one of the famous characters in great amounts of novels at that time.
History will not deceive us, the time will tell us that the truth cannot be hidden. Allowing to speak or not does not depend to us, wanting to speak or not just lies on everyone.
