邓巧巧-《八十天环游世界》读后感
Traveling around the world can be always seen a meaningful but extremely challenging career. Even in the modern era of rapid development of science and technology, only a few people who are enthusiastic to travel or want to explore the meaning of life have the courage to travel around the world. By contrast, the journey in the book around the world in 80 days more than one hundred years ago can be called a miracle in a point.
Derived from a bet of two thousand pounds with some partners at whist, Mr Phileas Fogg began his journey around the world with his servant, Jean Passepartout. It was so sensational that a kind of new bond “Phileas Fogg bond” were issued in exchange. Sensation as it, Mr Fogg remained as calm as ever. Traveling constantly eastward(According to the result in the end, this was a wise choice), they passed through the Mediterranean, the red sea, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, and visited India, Singapore, Japan, the United States and so on. To almost everyone’s surprise, they went back to London at the appointed time safe and sound.
In the last chapter of the book, it said “In which it is shown that Phileas Fogg gained nothing by his tour around the world, unless it were happiness.” In my opinion, it is just the meaning of travel. We often reckon that life is a long journey, forgetting that journey is also a life. During the journey, we may make the acquaintance of friends who own interesting souls, just like the meeting of Mr Fogg and Aouda. Encountering some people who we like is the luckiest thing I can imagine.
Besides, what impressed me most is when Passepartout was in danger, Mr Fogg said that “It’s my duty” without hesitation. At that point, I make sense of the meaning of gentleman——elegant in soul.
