Stay Clam
After reading Around the World in 80 Days, I think that what impressed me most is the protagonist Mr. Fogg’s calmness while facing all kinds of difficulties.
Around the World in 80 Days is a book written by Jules Gabriel Verne in the 1870s. The story is about Phileas Fogg, with his servant, travelling around the world in 80 days, due to the bet with his friends. They travelled from London, going through Suez, Bombay, Calcutta, Singapore, Hong Kong, Yokohama, San Francisco, and New York and finally came back to London. As the plot, Mr. Fogg was traced by a detective who suspected him robbed the bank in London. So Mr. Fogg and his servant encountered a lot of trouble. But every time Fogg would dealt with it calmly and never appeared nervous. Especially, when the ‘China’, the only streamer for Liverpool left before they arrived, while Passepartout and Aouda were crushed, Mr. Fogg was still looked calm as usual and slept well that night. And the next day, he got out to find another streamer to get to Liverpool and succeeded, despite a little too sanitized. Born human, we always meet with various difficulties. As the old saying, “He who is willing to win with ease, who is willing to lose with pride, who is willing to accept defeat with grace, who is willing to suffer from danger, who has thunder in his bosom and looks like a lake of peace, may worship the general.” Only when we calm down can we find a solution to the problem like Mr. Fogg.
