If foreigners want to learn Chinese culture, they must empty their minds and return to primitive and simple thinking. In fact, this means that Chinese culture is a kind of natural ideological system, which advocates the unity of man and nature. It aims to integrate man into nature and grow up with nature. It allows people to abide by a morality that is invincible from the outside world and live a simple and peaceful life.
Generally speaking, there are two sources of human attitudes towards nature. One is the thought of challenging nature and attempting to conquer nature, which is respected by Western culture. Because of the lack of resources, the ancient European countries considered navigation and business very early, and the spirit of exploration and pioneering became the eternal strength of Westerners. They are eager to expand and realize their ideals in conquest. So the Dutch, the Portuguese, the Spanish, the later Britain and other colonial countries followed this tradition.
The other is the idea of harmony between man and nature, which is advocated by Chinese traditional culture. It emphasizes the integration of man and nature, and pursues the law of natural development. It requires human beings to improve their lives on the premise of not destroying nature, while promoting harmonious coexistence between human beings.
In the short run, the culture of Westerners has obvious advantages. In the process of development, wealth has been accumulated greatly, so science and technology, industry have developed rapidly, and wealth accumulation has formed a virtuous circle, which is the process of the rise of modern Europe and the United States. In the wave of industrial development and colonial aggression, Chinese culture seems to be completely defeated by Western culture. But with the intensification of colonialism, the antennae of western culture have explored every corner of the earth. When there is no space to exploit, human beings think of killing each other. World War I is just a preview. In the following hundred years, the war has been going on and catastrophes have continued. In the final analysis, it is because of the western culture which contains endless greed. In the long run, the traditional Chinese culture is obvious. However, a longer life span and a natural way of development will bring more long-term happiness to human society.
Relatively to the environmental problems and social relations brought about by predatory development, there were no problems in ruling the world in ancient China. Nowadays, many problems that afflict human beings are impossible to appear in the Chinese cultural system. A philosopher in Europe once said, "If human beings want to develop in the 21st century, they must learn something from Chinese people".
Chinese culture represents a kind of development mode. The brilliant science and technology culture in ancient China proves that this development mode is excellent and harmonious. Early Western scholars such as Leibniz and Goethe had worshipped Chinese culture. Imagine that if the traditional Chinese model can survive forever, the present society, although it may not have computers or spaceships, can still provide people with a happy life, the key is to live without worries.
