Reaction to Chinese spirit
This is my first time to read one book entirely in English , so I read the book very carefully , though there are some obscure sentences.Actually , I just muddled through the book from beginning to end.
When I first started reading , I realized it was a book like philosophy because it is so difficult to understanding . Many of the words in the text are unknown and come up again and again , and it is all reasonable words , not a compelling story line. Even so , I have intermittently taken in some of the text.
It can be seen from the text that this view exists , with the establishment of an effective moral force , militarism would disappear on its own because there was no place for it .This , in fact , illustrates the problem facing Christianty in Europe . Then through which leads to the idea of how to solve the problem . And that is why we see the words moral heart , sense of honor which belongs to Chinese spirit in later articles. The author always emphasizes that he believe that europeans will find this new moral force in China and in Chinese civilization.Becauce the problem for the Europeans was not the outbreak of war , but the necessity of constantly arming themselves , the absolute necessity of using physical force to protect themsevels . The solution , then , is to learn from the Chinese spirit .
In describing the Chinese spirit , the author gives an example that Mr liang happily took office . He personally said that not because he cared about wearing the flower plume on his head , or because he would be rich from now on . All of them were poor when he was in Wuchang , but because he wanted to please his mother . His promotion made his old mother in Guangzhou happy . Compared to Europeans who overeducated in intelligence and science , Chinese learn Chinese much easier because Chinese language is also a kind of spiritual language . The author also want to tell us that the Chinese spirit is a state of mind , a disposition of the soul , which you cannot learn as well as shorthand or esperanto. So it is really a peaceful and blessed state of mind.
In contrast to the ancient Hebrew, ancient Greek and ancient Roman ideals of women, the essece of the Chinese ideal of women is the same: the real female ideal is always the housewife , the woman in charge of the house. This shyness in the ideal of the Chinese woman gives the real Chinese woman a fragrance that no other woman in the world has, a fragrance sweeter than that of the violet than that of the ineffable orchid.
Foreign scholars like Europe have little understanding of Chinese literature , and to some degree, there are misunderstangdings. Europeans know Chinese literature mainly in translation, not even the best novels, but the most mundane works in their genre.
In fact , I have not read the book very well. I also read the Chinese version of the book in the back to better understand it.
