Chinese Cultural Confidence
In my day and age, few people know Gu Hongming , let alone his representative work " Chinese Spirit". Therefore, recently, I first came into contact with Mr.Gu Hongming and his thoughts. The initial reading of "Chinese Spirit" is inevitably a bit boring, but as I gradually got to know this book deeply, I admire its confidence and esteem in Chinese culture. The spirit of the Chinese people, written by Mr Gu Hongming, who is reputed as a Chinese cultural oddity. This book explains the spirit of Chinese civilization and reveals its value from real China, Chinese etiquette and Chinese language .Written during the First World War at the beginning of last century, when European civilization was in crisis, Gu Hongming's purpose was obvious, pointing out a way out for the crisis-stricken Europe and even the entire world civilization. The aim is to try to explain the spirit of Chinese civilization and reveal its value, namely, Chinese civilization under the Confucian tradition. Besides, in comparing Chinese culture with western culture, the old gentleman highly praised Chinese culture and Confucian culture, believing that Chinese people are deep, broad, simple and sensitive, which I also quite agree with.  Because China is a nation of etiquette, it is not surprising that the Chinese civilization gave birth to people with only the above qualities.  In the article, Mr. Gu revealed the spiritual life of the Chinese people, publicized the value of Chinese traditional culture, advocated Confucian civilization, and helped Western civilization, which caused great repercussions in the West at that time.  In fact, as one of the Chinese civilizations, Confucian civilization has its negative side when it comes to the eve of the development of capitalism in modern China, while using Confucian civilization to rescue western civilization is somewhat culturally conservative and arrogant.  It is true that in the face of those foreign countries, I feel that "  the western moon is rounder than China", thus forgetting the root. According to the old man's time, the west was much more advanced in science and technology than China at that time. we should also admit the good side of the west. it is not that we have 5,000 years of splendid civilization and died to protect our nation. in fact, it is harmful and we have learned some lessons.Mr.Gu Hongming wrote his confidence in Chinese culture with his unique sharp brush strokes and scoffed at foreign culture, showing his confidence in and admiration for Chinese civilization. From the perspective of our contemporary people, we must inherit and carry forward the excellent culture of our own nation and learn from the advanced culture and science and technology of other nations. We must not have that kind of national arrogance mentality, so that our nation's culture can continue to flourish in harmony with the excellent culture of other nations and benefit our Chinese nation.   " The first Chinese spirit is gentlemanliness. Gentleman is not weak in nature or weak in submission, but not tough , harsh, rude and violent. The real Chinese may be coarse and humble, but there is no coarseness in coarse and humble. The real Chinese may be ugly, but his uglinessis not terrible. The real Chinese may be vulgar, but there is no aggression in vulgarity. The real Chinese may beignorant, but there is no absurdity in ignorance. The real Chinese may be cunning, but there is no evil in his cunning. " This sentence comes from Mr. Gu Hongming's "Chinese Spirit" and is also the conclusion of this article . These words tell us that the Chinese may have many shortcomings, but our spirit is pure and precious, and we should have confidence in it and try our best to keep it.
