Book review from xixi
I read Mr. Gu Hongming's work, "the Spirit of the Chinese", during the winter vacation. Mr. Gu Hongming is keen to promote the culture and spirit of the East to Westerners, and the Spirit of the Chinese is a work that clarifies the spirit of the famous Chinese people and the value of Chinese civilization.
At the beginning of this book, the author makes a comparison between the Chinese and the American, British, French and German people, highlighting the four excellent qualities of the Chinese people: grand, simple, profound and sensitive.
It is mentioned in the book that the spirit of the Chinese is gentry and strong empathy, among which I am most touched by the author's remarks on compassion. The author thinks that the real Chinese people are those who have the adult reason and the simple mind of the child, and combine the soul and reason properly. It is mentioned in the book that the spirit of the Chinese is gentry and strong empathy, among which I am most touched by the author's remarks on compassion. The author thinks that the real Chinese people are those who have the adult reason and the simple mind of the child, and combine the soul and reason properly. To explore the reason for the existence of this spirit is probably the deep-rooted in the hearts of the Chinese Confucianism. Confucianism emphasizes benevolence, righteousness and courtesy, so the Chinese choose humility and tolerance; Confucianism emphasizes monarchs and subjects, so most Chinese people dare not rebel. China has no western religious culture, but it can still rely on Confucianism to influence the education of human society and civilization, so that the way of being a gentleman is widely spread. Christianity and Buddhism are human religions, but Confucianism is the religion of society or the religion of the country. Therefore, the author believes that the true greatness of Confucianism lies in giving people the correct national concept and raising this idea to a religion that can be inherited for thousands of years.
The book also refers to the Chinese language, which has a history of thousands of years since Cangjie made characters, in which the culture is broad, is ancient and full of vitality, so the author thinks that Chinese is a language of the soul. When we are learning Chinese, we not only use our brains to analyze the symbols on paper, but also use our hearts to feel the emotion and culture flowing in the middle of the text. This is why foreigners feel that Chinese is one of the most difficult languages to learn in the world, because they do not know how to feel it with their hearts.
What is the spirit of the Chinese people is not a simple question to answer. Through many comparisons and examples, Mr. Gu Hongming expounds the Chinese spirit from the perspectives of Chinese women, Chinese language, Sinologists, and so on. I think in the face of thousands of years of Chinese cultural spirit, we should take its essence, get rid of its dross, continue to innovate in the inheritance.Only in this way can the Chinese people really be strong.
