麦琪的礼物
Shirleen
The gift of the magi is a short story by O. Henry, which tells the story of a poor young couple who give up their most precious things for each other to give each other Christmas presents. The hero Jim is a clerk whose salary is barely enough to keep the pot boiling, the heroine Della is a kind and virtuous housewife. They live in poverty, but Jim and Della each has an extremely precious treasure. Jim hes an old gold watch and Della has beautiful hair like a waterfall. In order to give each other a gift at Christmas, Jim sells his gold watch and buys a set of exquisite combs for Della, while Della sells her long hair and buys a platinum watch chain for Jim. They both give away their most precious things for each other, and the gifts they receive become useless. In my opinion, this story reflects the hardship of the life of the lower class people in America, and praises the kindness of the protagonists and their pure love. Though their gifts have lost their usefulness, the love they have reaped is priceless.
