Although the name of the book is Rolf in the Woods, it sure isn't the story of Rolf and his dog Skookum-chuck. An excellent and wonderfully told story with how-to instructions for a variety of outdoor skills, such as building a teepee to a bow-drill fire starter. If you love wild things, wild places, and immersing yourself in them, do yourself a favor and read this story.

欧内斯特·汤普森·西顿（Ernest Seton Thompson ，1860－1946），世界著名野生动物画家、博物学家、作家、探险家、环境保护主义者、印第安文化的积极传播者、“美洲林学知识小组联盟”的奠基人、美国童子军的创始人之一。西顿出生在英国，六岁时和家人一起来到加拿大。他从小就热爱大自然，悉心观察、研究大自然里的飞禽走兽，其小说《我所知道的野生动物》于1898年出版后获得了极大的成功。这本书使他在经济上获得了独立，并使他赢得了“世界动物小说之父”的美誉和美国总统西奥多·罗斯福的友谊。

Ernest Thompson Seton (August 14, 1860 – October 23, 1946) was an author (published in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the US), wildlife artist, founder of the Woodcraft Indians, and one of the founding pioneers of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Seton also influenced Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting. His notable books related to Scouting include The Birch Bark Roll and The Boy Scout Handbook. He is responsible for the appropriation and incorporation of what he believed to be American Indian elements into the traditions of the BSA.
