The Great Gatsby
After reading "The Great Gatsby" under the guidance of Nike Carraway, fitstly, I thought that the story was only satirizing the hypocrisy and indifference of others through Gatsby's truth and enthusiasm for love. However, when I learned about the background of this book, I learned that as a classic work in the history of literature, it represents an era,in which the characters are the epitome of people living in that era.
That era was confused and noisy. The opportunities of development brought by the war and the unprecedented abundance of material life hit the people of that era. Wealth became their only desire. Accordingly, Gatsby and Daisy in the book also pursue money and material for different purposes. When money can represent everything, such as Gatsby's pure desire for love can only be a dream , and falling in love with the indifferent, selfish Daisy also indicates the inevitable sadness of his ending. In the end, Gatsby's death was the destruction of his own dream, and it was also the destruction of the American dreams in that era.
Despite humility and sadness, Gatsby still brought me a lot of feelings. When Gatsby's father took out his schedule when he was young, it seemed to me that I saw an upward teenager. It was the true pursuit of dreams and the shaping of personality. When he saw the essence of Daisy , he still devoted and still loved her like a warrior. In that muddy age, he had always retained the purity of his emotions, and he would not fall, which made him worthy of being called "the Great Gatsby."
No matter living in what era in history, it is great to put aside the fanaticism of money and stick to our innocence and the beauty of life. We should always keep pushing forward, against the current.
