翠竹泣墨痕

Voice for China

翠竹泣墨痕

"The Spirit of the Chinese" is one of Gu Hongming's most influential works. Once it was published, it caused great repercussions in Europe during World War I. In the book, this talented scholar of Chinese and Western studies speaks for China as a Chinese. For the name of Chinese traditional culture.
I believe that a talented person who is proficient in nine languages and has obtained 13 doctoral degrees, an overseas Chinese who has returned to China to maintain traditional culture in a long distance, will reveal the Chinese people's spiritual life with full national pride and tell the world its value.
Gu Hongming's analysis of the problems caused by modern European society is profound and thorough. He believes that the biggest problem in European society is the worship and dependence of force, and that the good remedy for this kind of social chaos is Chinese Confucianism and philosophy. It is the meekness and kindness in the Chinese spirit. Therefore, the book details the spiritual life of the real Chinese and the real Chinese. The first three chapters of the book are "The Spirit of the Chinese, the Women of China, and the Language of China." In these three chapters, The author has fully demonstrated his familiarity with and love for Chinese traditional culture. Compared with the pity of some foreign scholars when they studied ancient Chinese culture, or some domestic scholars have always reflected on traditional culture, the works of Qi Lao are even more true. Thanks to this, traditional Chinese culture continued to shine during World War I in Europe, especially in Germany.
I am deeply impressed and moved by Mr. Gu Hongming's recognition and love of Chinese culture. However, I can not agree with the individual points of view. Civilization has been tested in the course of history. Perhaps they will be abandoned by the progress of mankind, while Mr. Gou Hongming praises and praises almost all of China's traditional culture without distinction, and even defends its dross. This is a typical form of corruption. In addition, there were many ancient Chinese emperors who were belligerent and expanded their borders. Historically, there was no shortage of wars in China. Even some brief peace was merely an illusion of peace based on force, far from the benevolence that Confucianism had promised. Whether Confucianism can have the effect of quelling the European war still needs to be discussed. Yet Mr Gu is certainly a great man, even in an information-rich modern society, and I pray that his approval of Chinese culture is a recognition of its merits.
However, Mr. Gu Hongming and the European society at that time, as well as the ancient Chinese culture they saw, have become the past. Rereading the book today is not about praise, much less criticism, but rather about taking the best out of it, learning from Mr. Gou Hongming's passion for Chinese culture and learning from the true Chinese spirit he portrays today. With the help of the essence of Chinese traditional culture, he grew into a humble gentleman who loves his country and his family. In this way, we will not disappoint the hard work of Mr Gu

Could you please help me with the ethusiasm of Mr.Gu for traditional culture, does it stem from the sense of "love me love my dag", or from the same emotion like the scholars had, who supported thorogh westernization.
