Some Feelings
陈心痛
I read The Scarlet Letter after some of the feelings: first, the title of the book has made me feel a little confused. I read the whole book, and knew that it was the master, Hester Prynne, with the scarlet letter of soul and ignominy on her breast -- a great “A”. But why does the author used “scarlet letter” instead of “red letter”? These doubts were solved after I read them. First, the scarlet letter, the "A" word, has such a different meaning in this story. At the beginning of the novel, the letter "A" is a symbol of sin, reminding people all the time that Hester is a sinful woman. But then I found out that Hester was actually a woman with a kind nature, a rich sensibility and a desire for happiness. Hester was able to do good work for a living and donated the rest to charity, except to dress up her children. Third, the novel also impresses me is little Pearl, who is pure in the eyes of Hester, the crystal of love, not the product of evil as people say. Little Pearl is really simple, I especially remember a scene she asked her mother, why do you have the scarlet letter? Will I have it when I grow up? She also does not think that the mother who has the scarlet letter is a sinful person, she only knows that she is the best mother to her. So, neither Hester nor little Pearl thought the scarlet letter on her breast terrible. I thought they were still alive and well, what is truly terrible is the scarlet letter engraved on the heart.
