Joan Pinkham’s The Translator’s Guide to Chinglish is a professional and practical guide that reshapes my cognition of English writing and translation. Most Chinese English learners are unconsciously influenced by Chinese linguistic logic, resulting in awkward and unnatural Chinglish in their sentences. With eight years of translation revision experience in authoritative Chinese institutions, Pinkham collects countless real and typical Chinglish cases and sorts them out in a scientific and systematic way. Different from rigid theoretical textbooks, this book focuses on practical correction skills. It teaches readers to spot redundant expressions, illogical collocations and Chinese-style sentence structures in drafts. Through reading, I realize that authentic English writing requires abandoning inherent Chinese thinking modes. This book not only helps polish English expressions but also cultivates pure English thinking awareness, which is of great guiding significance for my future English learning and translation practice.
