The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorn, narrated a story about a love tragedy which happened in Colonial North America. Hester Prynne, the heroine, got married with Dr. Chillingworth, who had nothing in common with her. In fact, Hester didn’t love her husband. Not until she met Mr. Dimmesdale, a young minister and was respected among people in his town, did she found herself meet true love and fell in love with him, Dimmesdale loved her, too. Hester was a married woman, so their love was forbidden at that time.in spite of everything, they remained together, and had a daughter, Pearl. Due to this, Hester was punished by society with a letter A on her chest for many years, which considered an evil, a shame. Dimmesdale was too weak to admit his sins, so until he died, their story was a secret. After reading this book, although this book was to symbolize the harshness of Puritan society, and showing how they brand sinners for life, what appeared in my mind was that Hester was a very brave woman. She was not afraid of what others thought of her, she pursuit her true love bravely. She knew what she really wanted, and she did so, I really admit her. I don’t mean to follow her to do that, I just want to express that we should pursuit what we want and then do our best.
