  Compared with death, failing to be recognized by her beloved is more anguished for woman. The greater tragedy is she loses the value of self existence in this failed love.

  in my opinion, she was desperate for the existence of her love, even of her life. And maybe that’s why she was eager for his recognition. If the man never appeared in her life, she was likely to be a self-contemptuous and less-educated girl leading a common life as other poor girls. She couldn’t have read much books and been audacious to be independent from family. Her first sight at the man opened a door of a world filled with curiosity and difference. She fell in love with not only the man but a possibility of new life. In other word, she was reborn when she met him. Therefore, she devoted all herself to the man and their boy to maintain her significance of life. Only through the man could she define herself. Failing to gain independence between self and him when she failed to combine herself with him caused her tragedy of love and life.
