On Friday, Uniqlo will open an outpost at King of Prussia Mall, an upscale shopping center just outside Philadelphia. It’ll be the 21st Uniqlo store operating in the U.S., where the Japanese fashion giant has grand plans.

周五,优衣库(Uniqlo)将在费城的高档购物中心“普鲁士王商场”(King of Prussia Mall)新开设一家门店。这将是优衣库在美国开张营业的第21家门店。对于美国,这个日本时装巨头有着宏伟的发展规划。

The 30-year-old Tokyo-based brand is already a cult favorite on both coasts, revered for its high-quality but inexpensive staples.

Its denim, for example, is famously sourced from Japan and woven on the same old-fashioned looms as Levi’s and other pricier purveyors. A pair of men’s jeans at Uniqlo costs around $40, versus about $70 for a similar Levi’s pair and hundreds for trendy lines found in department stores.

So far, the chain’s stateside growth has been slow but steady. In 2012, there were four Uniqlo stores in the U.S., and by March 2014, there were 17.

This year, though, that number will rise to well over 30. This fall, at least 10 more outposts will open their doors in New Jersey, Connecticut, New York and California.

Boston is next, with six stores on the cards in the near future. Later this year Philadelphia will get its first downtown Uniqlo to complement the King of Prussia Mall store opening Friday.
