The Turkish astronomer in 《The little prince》
When the Turkish astronomer presented his discovery of the Asteroid B-12 to the International Astronomical Congress, nobody believed him because he was in Turkish costume. However, everyone accepted his report when he gave his demonstration all over again in European costume in 1920.
I think it’s probably related to the location and the religion of Turkey. Europe is commonly divided into two parts: the eastern Europe and the western Europe. The part includes Former Soviet Union and its surrounding countries is called the eastern Europe, while the other consists of developed capitalist countries is the western Europe. However, lying in the southern Europe, the location of Turkey is special and important.
When it comes to the religion, we all know that most of people in Europe believe in Christianity, but Turkey is an Islamic country and its largest religion is Islam.
Above all, Turkey is not considered a child of Europe.
When reading this plot, I think about a common situation nowadays that quite a few people with high intelligence, having a large stock of information, dress well but behave rudely and ridiculously. I don’t think it’s a good way judging a people whether he’s good or bad, whether he’s kind or evil just by his appearance or dress. Instead, we should spend more time getting knowing people sincerely.
